Technology.am (Aug. 29, 2009) — Japanese researchers have created a robot nurse called RIBA that can assist nurses by lift elderly patients from wheelchairs and beds.

RIBA is short for Robot for Interactive Body Assistance” and it has been developed by researchers at Japan’s Institute of Physical and Chemical Research and Tokai Rubber Industries Ltd.

Riba can recognize faces and voices of co-workers and respond to voice commands.

Riba can lift patients of weight between 61 kilos to 180 kilos by using foam-padded paws.
