A Summer Afternoon Over Hafrafell, Iceland

The weather forecast for July 11th, 2008 correctly predicted some sunshine for the afternoon, to be followed in the evening by cloudy skies and rain. Thus I was puzzled by their procrastination and apparent disregard of the forecast rain. As the local pilots arrived at the site, one spent much time on ground handling exercises at the LZ, and those who eventually ascended to the middle take off mat were more interested in huddling and “chilling” there and enjoying each other’s company than in getting airborne to enjoy a flight before the rain… The 11th was not an exceptionally cloudless day, as the 19th, depicted in my other movie from Reykjavik, but nevertheless, the flying that afternoon wasn’t half bad ;-) I’ll try to return to Iceland in the summer of 2010, hoping to soar other site(s) facing the south coast and (if the opportunity arises) to fly downwind away from Hafrafell.
