Het team van Gowalla gaat aan de slag met Facebook Timeline, waarbij het merendeel van het personeel zal verhuizen van Austin naar Palo Alto, waar het hoofdkantoor van Facebook is gevestigd. Over een overnamesom en andere voorwaarden is nog niets bevestigd. Gowalla ging in maart 2009 van start tijdens de conferentie SXSW, waarbij ze meteen een mobiele app voor de iPhone introduceerden. POPA is een product dat we al eens eerder op iPhoneclub zagen langskomen. Toen heette het nog Red Pop , maar het idee is hetzelfde gebleven: een rode cameraknop op je iPhone. Zo maak je van de iPhone een soort camera, met een makkelijke knop om foto’s te maken. Je drukt de POPA op je iPhone en de speciale app is meteen klaar om foto’s te maken. Daar zit ook meteen het minpunt van deze oplossing: je bent verplicht om de POPA-app te gebruiken, anders werkt het niet. Na lang wachten is de POPA eindelijk te koop: los voor £50 of voor £56 in combinatie met de MoviePeg , waar we ook als eens over schreven.
