Toronto Tempo
If you like my work please visit yourfriendryan.com I love this city. As tribute, I’ve pieced together thousands of photos that I think capture Toronto’s beautiful skyline, and the essence of the lively downtown core. All but one of the scenes in this time-lapse were shot between September and October of this year. In some ways, my presentation of Toronto is a follow up to a recent summer fling in Ottawa, where I produced Capital Cruising; thanks to CTV Ottawa’s interest in using the video as an introduction to their 6 o’clock news, I was able to devote myself to the creation of what I hope is a piece that everyone in the city can enjoy. Thank you to CTV Ottawa for utilizing my last video Capital Cruising ( vimeo.com/26830842 ) for their 6 o’clock news segment, which indirectly funded this project. Thank you, Matt Black, of One King West hotels. You gave me the opportunity to behold some of the best views of the city. You should make this hotel a priority if you are visiting! onekingwest.com/ Thank you, blursurfer. You showed me some crazy vantage points. Please check out his impressive work here: blursurfing.com/ Thank you 1loveto for keeping in touch these past couple months and launching the video. Check them out at: 1loveto.com/ Thank you to my family, Jon B, Layla T, and Martin L. In the future, I’d like to set my sights on Vancouver, and my camera on the province’s sprawling landscape. Or a longer, properly funded Toronto film. If you have any interest in helping me accomplish this goal, e-mail me at: ryanemond747@gmail.com . I’m shooting with: Nikon D700 with various lenses rented from Vistek. Motion with the stage zero dolly from dynamicperception.com/ (Great product, and the best customer service I have ever experienced.) I also use a set of Lee filters and an Orion telescope head for some of the pans. Between Days
Music by: Message To Bears ( messagetobears.com ) Secret Machines ( thesecretmachines.com ) Skriet ( myspace.com/skrietsthlm ) After leaving their home in Banja Luka, Bosnia because of the Yugoslavian war in the beginning of the 90′s, Abdulah Kadenic and his wife Sehaveta ended up in Norway. They lived there for 12 years until Sehavata got so ill that she had to be put in a nursing home. Due to not understanding the language very well and because they never really felt at home in Norway they decided to move back to Bosnia. Abdulah now lives in Sarajevo while Sehaveta stays at a nursing home 90 kilometers from there in the city of Travnik. Every week he visits her. Note: Being in another country with no intentions of recording anything serious I didn’t have access to my usual equipment, only the camera itself and two lenses – the Canon 50mm 1.8 and the Tokina 11-16. That’s why most of the shots are handheld, and the sound and voice-over had to be recorded with the internal microphone. _grau | 10:01 min | d 2004
_grau is a personal reflection on memories coming up during a car accident, where past events emerge, fuse, erode and finally vanish ethereally … various real sources where distorted, filtered and fitted into a sculptural structure to create not a plain abstract, but a very private snapshot of a whole life within its last seconds … Media critic Matt Hanson, author of The End of Celluloid and founder of onedotzero festival says: “_grau appeals to me because it is organo-tech. it does not deliberately ape the abstract pioneers of abstract cinema, and it is worlds away from the motion graphic masturbation of many of those enamoured by digital animation. seidel’s work is impressionistic, melding biological and emotional currents. out of amorphous shapes we make out bones, heads, a hand. a spirit leaving the body. at least, this is what i sense out of the chaos of galactic reconfigurations, neurological connections, and biological forms. this is a powerful piece of digital animation precisely because it does not feel like such, it feels emotional, epic. and once you release the background to the animation–communicating a ‘coming to terms’ with the aftermath of a car accident–you realise why.” Robert Seidel | 10:01 minutes | Germany 2004 | 2minds.de Cast: Robert Seidel and film-m Tags: abstract , experimental film , animation , car accident , crash , tableaux vivants , 3d , xray , motion capture , 3d scan , virtual sculpture , grey , leibniz , film-m , drama , art , video art , media art , robert seidel and philipp hirsch
